Imperial White.
The glaze.
Imperial White is a glossy calcium/magnesium glaze.
A liner glaze is normally chosen for the inside of functional ware because of its durability and leach resistance. They do not get scratched by cutlery and don't leach hazardous materials (a.k.a. they are food safe). Aesthetically, I personally like how white pairs with food and drinks.
The name.
The shiny white surface of this glaze reminds me of the armor worn by the Imperial army. Stormtroopers are hard to miss in the Star Wars universe because they are everywhere. So is Imperial White.
